With a vantage point in existing iOS apps, Mjølner created 14 engaging, beautiful, and robust metro style banking apps for Windows Phones. Each app matched the visual identity of a distinct bank. Mjølner delivered a process with a strong focus on information architecture and specifications, allowing for a highly iterative approach in spite of the fact that the process involved very different 14 banks.
THE CHALLENGE
With a vantage point in existing iOS apps, Mjølner created 14 engaging, beautiful, and robust metro style banking apps for Windows Phone. Each app matched the visual identity of a distinct bank.
Bankdata is a Danish IT organization for banks, which employs over 500 people. The organization offers complete IT solutions and development to 14 Danish banks, and these also constitute the owners of Bank Data.
During the last decade, the private banking sector has seen a massive development toward less physical interaction, which has sent the number of online transactions through the roof. This dramatically increases the importance of mobile banking apps as a touch point between banks and their customers. To a large extent, the banking apps are where customers meet and experience their bank. This has led to a race towards being the first provider on the market with engaging and professional looking smartphone and tablet solutions.

14 BANKS, 14 METRO APPS
Bankdata already had existing mobile apps for Android and iPhone, but also wanted to offer their banks a mobile banking solution for Windows Phones. Bankdata had learned a lot from the development of the iOS apps, but lacked experience with the Windows Phone platform.
Because of our experience with Windows Phone 7 as well as Windows 8, we were asked to design and develop a solution that would draw on the existing iOS apps, while re-designing and tweaking the new app to honor the innovative metro designof the Windows Phone platform. This is essentially a design paradigm that focuses on “content over chrome” while maintaining a sleek and swift interaction with state of the art performance.
Each of the 14 banks owning Bankdata needed their own high quality version of the app and were closely involved with the design and development process. However, the process still needed to be efficient and to take advantage of the economy of scale benefits of the Bankdata organization. Mjølner delivered a process with a strong focus on information architecture and specifications, allowing for a highly iterative approach in spite of the fact that the process involved 14 banks.
The result was 14 distinct mobile banking apps tuned to the visual identity of each bank, while offering impressive performance, usability, and eye-catching graphical design.
The client
Bankdata is an IT organization with more than 650 employees. It delivers digital banking solutions to 11 Danish banks, e.g. Sydbank and Jyske Bank. The 11 banks constitute the owners of Bankdata.
