THE CHALLENGE

As DBA’s chosen partner in reaching customers on all major mobile platforms, Mjølner was asked to develop the new and improved DBA app for Android. Users can now put items up for sale directly from their phone, which is expected to significantly boost the number of listed items online.

DBA (Den Blå Avis) is Denmark’s biggest market place for private sellers and buyers and a part of the multinational corporation, eBay. The company was one of the first Danish organizations to exploit the vast potential of the Web, launching their online marketplace, dba.dk, as early as 1995. Today, more than 1 million items are listed on dba.dk making it one of the most popular Danish websites.

The latest years have brought a huge growth in the amount of traffic coming from mobile devices. This has increased the importance of being present on several platforms severely. Acknowledging this fact, DBA made the strategic decision of specializing in one platform in-house, delegating e.g. Android projects to Mjølner.

Android is a particularly challenging platform as the many supported devices differ in screen resolution and interaction possibilities. This makes the development of Android apps a complex process, but one that Mjølner masters.

CREATING A NEW AND IMPROVED APP FOR ANDROID

With the new app, Android users can now enjoy a greatly improved search function and sell their items directly from their mobile phones. Say you are messing around in the attic and stumble upon your old Super Nintendo. Now, you simply take a picture with your phone and put the console up for sale within seconds.

Mjølner developed the app with a primary focus on the user and how to offer the most intuitive and satisfying experience possible. A lot was done to improve the user experience in the user interface as well as technical optimizations, where performance and battery consumption were significantly improved.
