THE SETTING
In a live workshop at Denmark’s largest electronic events, E-14, Mjølner helped Nilan discover how they can modernize their ventilation products with TouchGFX.
Most important to Nilan was the preservation of a low energy consumption in the redesigned product. Watch the video below for a full view of our five hour process.
COMPLETE MAKEOVER
Nilan is a Danish company that manufactures energy-saving ventilation and heat pump solutions.
They strive to be at the cutting edge of the technological development in order to produce some of the market’s most efficient energy-saving systems and solutions.
In their process of updating and improving some of their existing products, the company asked Mjølner to do a complete makeover of an existing control panel for ventilation systems.
FROM IDEA TO PROTOTYPE
The purpose of the workshop was to give Nilan a better understanding of what they can achieve with TouchGFX and how a project can unfold. All without spending too much precious time.
“The workshop is a simple tool for product managers, developers and others to estimate, plan, and develop embedded GUI ideas. All we need is a basic idea, one dedicated person, and a few design guidelines.”
– Jørgen Mygind, Business Development Manager, TouchGFX.
BRINGING IMPORTANT ELEMENTS INTO FOCUS
What Nilan wanted was a realistic mock-up to convey how a redesign of one of their products could look like. The product was going to be part of a current product line.
In the ideation and conceptualization phases, we revised the structure of the current product to fit the user.
Colors and contrasts were chosen to align the prototype with Nilan’s existing products and enabled us to bring important functions and features into focus.
ENERGY EFFICIENT TOUCH TECHNOLOGY
As touch interfaces have become more widespread, Nilan wanted to apply an energy efficient touch technology to their products.
By using TouchGFX, we were able to present a smaller and more elegant device with a clean and simple graphic design that matches other modern systems.
Nilan ensures a healthy indoor environment and is an active forerunner in the fight against climate changes. We were able to reflect these values in an energy efficient product by using TouchGFX.
HARDWARE SPECIFICATIONS
- 3,5” (320×240) display
- Cortex M4 microcontroller
- Low memory footprint
PROOF OF CONCEPT
The prototype ended up reflecting the company’s values and identity in an updated and user-friendly version running on low resource hardware.
New understanding
"The workshop gave me a new understanding of use scenarios and how we can utilize the animations, graphics, and functionalities that TouchGFX offers and how it can give our users a better product experience overall."
The client
Nilan develops and manufactures premium-quality, energy-saving ventilation and heat pump solutions that are beneficial to the environment and provide a healthy indoor climate and low-level energy consumption.
