LOOKING FORWARD

Today we’ve got more than 300 talented experts on the team, and our greatest strength is our diversity of skills. We’re specialists in software development, digitalization advice, and executing IT projects start to finish.

In 2023 Mjølner opened an office in central Madrid. Our new colleagues strengthen us not only with professional skill, but also culturally, and they will contribute to complex IT projects. The opening of our office is part of our long-term strategic goal of becoming even more flexible at delivering solutions.

It needs to be attractive to work at Mjølner. That’s why we want a diverse workplace, that respects our differences and has a healthy work-life balance. Our dedicated and skilled coworkers are, and have always been, the foundation of our complete and user-friendly solutions.

2022

A CHANGE OF OWNERSHIP SOLIDIFIED MJØLNER’S PLACE IN THE MARKET

In the spring of 2022 Norlys bought 95% of Mjølner Informatics, who at the same time gained 84 new colleagues. The ownership change came out of an ambition to grow further, attract even more talent, as well as working on more digitalization projects with even more clients.

The timing coincided with an expected changing of the guard among the owners, among whom many had been at the founding in 1988. Buying out Mjølner is meant to support Norlys’ own marked IT transformation, but with a continued focus on our other clients.

Our clients’ business is always where we start. In 2022 we established four industry specific business entities: Utility and Energy Services, Manufacturing, Media as well as Finance & Retail. Our comprehensive domain knowledge can thus be of even further benefit for our clients.

NEW OFFICE IN THE HEART OF COPENHAGEN

An increase in demand from clients in western Denmark led to, in the spring of 2019, Mjølner buying the Danish IT consultants Springfeed, based in Copenhagen. The buy brought us geographically closer to both current and potential clients.

The following years saw an expansion in our engagement in western Denmark and showed that we’re a national supplier in the fields of digital transformation, software development and user-centric design.

2018

SALE OF DRAUPNER GRAPHICS

In the summer of 2018, we sold our sister company, Draupner Graphics, to the international microelectronics producer STMicroelectronics. Draupner Graphics was founded by Mjølner Informatics in 2014 with the exact purpose of continuing development and sell the product called TouchGFX, a framework making it possible for the user to create innovative embedded graphical user interfaces with high-end visuals and animation, all on micro controllers.

GENERATION CHANGE

After 20 years as the CEO of Mjølner, Jørgen Lindskov Knudsen stepped back in 2014. Jørgen Lindskov Knudsen had been a driving force behind Mjølner since the very beginning. He helped shape Mjølner into a financially sound and respected software and design consultancy. The former Vice President and Chief Sales Officer, Brian Gottorp Jeppesen, became the new CEO at Mjølner.

TouchGFX and Draupner Are Born:

During 2010, Mjølner discovered a gap in the market. Consumers wanted smartphone-like touch controls in their products, but they did not want to pay smartphone-like prices. This was the beginning of TouchGFX.

TouchGFX is a unique software framework, enabling high-end graphics and modern touch functions in everything from ovens to gas pumps.

In 2014, TouchGFX got a new home, Draupner Graphics. Three members of Mjølner joined Draupner Graphics, and CEO of Mjølner, Brian Jeppesen, also became the leader of Draupner. TouchGFX was ready for the global market. Draupner Graphics makes sure that TouchGFX’s framework gives the international clients what they need.

ENOUGH OF MEMORY LANE?

2007 – 2009

EXPANDING OUR TOOLBOX WITH USER EXPERIENCE

In 2007, we founded our User Experience department. The purpose was, and still is, to ensure that our development projects have a strong focus on User Experience from the very start. We make sure that we understand our customers’ businesses. To make this happen, we foster close dialogue with them. The continuing dialogues enable us to analyze what the companies and their customers’ needs are and find a solution to best match them.

The close cooperation between Mjølner and Hypergenic A/S resulted in a merge where Hypergenic A/S became a part of Mjølner Informatics. The merge was implemented at the turn of the year in 2007.

EMBEDDED EXPERTISE FROM AGENS EMBEDDED SYSTEMS

In 2005, we bought all commercial activities and rights from the company Agens Embedded Systems, which possessed expert knowledge about embedded software, digital media, and wireless technologies. The activities from Agens Embedded Systems became an integrated part of Mjølner. This integration was partly made possible by hiring former Agens employees to join our team.

2000 – 2003

THE FOUNDATION OF HYPERGENIC

In cooperation with TDC Innovation, we founded Hypergenic in 2000. Both TDC and Mjølner had developed advanced web technologies – among others, overview-creating technologies with basis in a research project between TDC and Aarhus University.

At this point in time, we needed a bigger location and became the first IT company to move to Katrinebjerg, which today is known as the IT City of Aarhus.

Mjølner took absolute ownership of Hypergenic A/S in 2003, making Hypergenic A/S a subsidiary company to Mjølner Informatics. Hypergenic developed their key competencies within overview-creating technologies with focus on user-friendliness and accessibility.

The commercial development of the programming language Java and its related technologies made it clear that it was no longer possible for us to continue the commercial activity and expansion of Mjølner BETA System. A decision was made to move the BETA activities back to the research group at Aarhus University.

1992 – 1999

TRANSITION TO A COMMERCIAL SOFTWARE CONSULTANCY

During the early stages of this period, Mjølner began its transformation to a commercial consultancy. Our activities slowly changed as commercial software development for national and international clients became more dominating.

In 1994, one of the founding members, Jørgen Lindskov Knudsen, became CEO of Mjølner and the former CEO, Ole Lehrmann Madsen, became chairman of the board.

Along with the transformation to a commercial house, we changed our name. Until 1999 our actual name was ‘Mjølner Informatik’. Since then, we had internationalized our services and wanted our company name to match the development. This is why we changed our company name to the current – Mjølner Informatics.

1992 – 1999

1988 – 1991

THE FOUNDATION OF MJØLNER INFORMATICS

Mjølner Informatics was founded by nine dedicated people as a spin-off to the Nordic research and development project ‘Mjølner’ in 1988. The purpose was twofold:

  1. We wanted to be the Danish industrial partner to the research and development project ‘Mjølner’.
  2. We also wanted to work with product maturing and sales promotion of several object-oriented technologies.

The different activities in Mjølner were based on the programming language BETA. The designers of the BETA-language were some of the founding members of Mjølner, including the father of object-oriented programming Kristen Nygaard, and the chairman of the board Ole Lehrmann Madsen. BETA was the core of Mjølner’s activities.

Ole Lehrmann Madsen became the first CEO of Mjølner, and apart from the nine founders there were five employees.
