Energinet
AI increases efficiency for employees
Energinet is working at full speed to drive the green transition in Denmark’s power grid, where national capacity must be significantly expanded to handle higher and more fluctuating electricity production and consumption. This must be done intelligently and requires extensive digitalization to enable the right investments and to operate the grid based on data. At the same time, the growing cyber threat landscape, including targeted threats against supply security, brings renewed focus to all aspects of security measures.
Energinet needs to increase efficiency in a way that supports employees in their daily work while maintaining the highest standards of data security. Through a collaboration with Mjølner, innovation has been driven around the use of AI, and solutions have been implemented across multiple areas.

The Challenge
Energinet is working to scale Denmark’s power grid to meet the demands of an increasingly electrified society. This creates a number of large and complex tasks, and to execute them in the smartest possible way, Energinet is driving innovation based on vast amounts of data. Alongside their grid-related responsibilities, many internal processes also need to scale, including legal work and procurement. At the same time, the organization itself is growing to keep pace with the task, which increases the need for efficient knowledge sharing.
Energinet has invested heavily in AI innovation. One of the early applications is using large language models (LLMs) to assess decisions related to the construction of power pylons. Here, concrete proposals can be evaluated by searching and summarizing previous legal rulings.
Mjølner has supported Energinet in solving this and several subsequent tasks within applied AI. Our consultants bring specialized expertise in AI and help activate language models in combination with the organization’s domain knowledge and existing tools. At the same time, we ensure that data security remains at the highest possible level.
Information at the right time and place
As Energinet scales its business to meet the ambitious goals for the national power grid, it is crucial that internal processes scale accordingly. Energinet’s projects involving large language models streamline workflows and give each employee access to information delivered by their own AI assistant. This strengthens employees’ day-to-day work, as if each person had a dedicated assistant providing relevant information exactly when they need it.
COLLABORATION AND PARTNERSHIP
